Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone

My Brachymetatarsia didn’t begin to show until I was in about the second grade but it never bothered me until I was in the 5th grade. I had always worn any shoes I wanted until a guy in my class drew a picture of my feet and passed it around the class and everyone laughed. I asked the teacher to make him stop and she said “Well, your the one who chose to wear the shoes that show your toes.” Every since that day I have been very embarassed and keep my feet covered at all times. I relate to all the stories I’ve read. I wear socks at home, hide my feet in the sand at the beach and never let the sales person help me at the shoe store. I’m so glad to know this has a name and I’m not the only person in the world with feet like this. I really wish insurance would pay to have this corrected.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to diminish anyones’ agony. I too suffered from the stares and felt embarrassment and self-imposed humiliation for my deformity, but then I grew up. It wasn’t easy but I just got over it, I even bought a toe ring for it [more..]
