  • Charcot in the ankle - by Lori - (Fri, Jan 22 2010)
I have Charcot in both of my feet. It started out with Charcot in my right foot. I lived with a Crow Boot for about 4-6 months. I was walking up a steep incline (with my right foot in a Crow Boot), when my left achilles tendon ruptured. I went and got a brace with a hole in the heel. I ended up with a diabetic ulcer where I had to have surgery. I ended up with osteomyelitis in my heel. The doctor did surgery on my foot. It started heeling with the help of a wound vac. About 3 months later, my foot got infected again and I ended up back in the hospital. They got the infection under control and I got to go home. But now my left foot has charcot in the ankle. I still have to have my foot looked at by my Podiatrist because it still builds up fluid that has to be drained. This is where I am at now. I would like to know if there is other ways to treat this without amputation. That’s what the doctor has suggested or more surgery to get the fractured bones out. There is no guarantee that surgery or infection will not happen again. [more..]
