Living with charcot for over five years now…

I had an acute charcot in January of 2002. After healing took place, I have gone on with MOST of my life. I did have to retire early from a teaching career I loved, and that was a “bitter pill to swallow,” but, luckily, I am still able to drive, walk through stores and for small distances, and wear normal shoes (with orthotics which are never quite comfortable). I find that swimming at my local “Y” is an immense help - other people are dealing with problems such as ours, and there are no judgements made. Keep your chin up, but also allow yourself some time for self-pity: there really is no one else out there who knows your exact circumstances. Sometimes I treat myself to a new CD, a small bangle, or……a good cry. It seems to help clear my senses and face another day. Take good care of yourself, too.
