Scared and depressed

by: Rita on Tue, Apr 29 2008

Here it is April and I still can’t walk without pain. In October 2007 I wss told that I had “Charcot Foot” which I had never heard of in my life.

I am a diabetic and aware that all kinds of things can happen to my body. I do not take care of my self very well but have tried to do better since October. It really hit home when I was told that I could lose my foot. Before my mother died she lost a foot and I don’t want that to happen to me.

I was in six different cast, a boot, used a wheelchair for weeks, and now a brace to use in my diabetic shoe. I thought that everything would be good because I was doing exactly what three doctors was telling me. Now, it is over six months and I still hurt when I walk, can’t sleep due to feet hurting. I am about to give up. In the past few weeks I can tell that it is getting worse again. What really gets me, before I had no pain, now that “they” say everything is getting better because I can feel the feet. I have real pain! All the time…SO things are better because I have pain. Go figure that….

I guess I am getting paid back for all the times I ate stuff knowing what it could do to me! Does anyone out there have any “good” news about getting well or at least that things could get better.

I am a college instructor and can sit while teaching but have to go to many schools everyday to observe interns. It is impossible to load and unload a wheelchair that many times a day. I also have a bad back and loading a wheelchair is not very easy.

I guess I just want to hear from others what is going on with them and compare notes!

It is so depressing that it appears that people do not get over this problem. I have to learn to deal with this issue. I just want out of pain and able to keep my job.

I would like to communicate with others to at least hear what they are going through and maybe things that would help me!
Sincerely,
Rita
