I believe I have had it to a lesser degree since I was in high school…maybe before. Since there are so many symptoms with FMS, it is easy to blame everything on FMS. About 6 years ago I developed an increased amount of pain and exhaustion. I also have ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis of the spine) and am diabetic, so I tried to accept the increased smptoms as a flare-up of FMS. After 3 months, I finally saw my doctor. Tests showed that I was in kidney failure. It had nothing to do with FMS. It did have to do with a blood pressure med interacting with the Indomethicin I had taken for 5 years for my arthritis. I had to stop both meds and can not take NSAIDS for arthritis anymore. The arthritis, unchecked, has continued to get worse. When I stopped the culprit meds, my kidneys were functioning at 35%. They have improved and now function at 50%. Please do not assume that any increase in symptoms is due to your fibromyalgia. Gabapentin was prescribed for another condition, but does help the FMS, also. When I forgot to refill my scrip recently and was without it for 4 days, I realized just how much it does affect the FMS.
