Toe pain

A year ago I started having toe pain on the 4th toe, when I was running a lot. I went to see a podiatrist and found that my toe ‘clicks’ towards the inside, to the 3rd toe. When I lift my toe, it jerks/ clicks/ moves sharply over and when that happens it hurts. He gave me a toe pad that helped keep my toe in place when I ran and that seemed to fix the problem. I stopped running for 6 months but started running again in November. February I started having occasional toe pain again-same place & same problem. I ignored it until 2 weeks ago when I started using my toe pad again, it helped but it’s still painful when I run. Now my toe hurts all the time when I walk, lift or run -basically all the time. Any ideas?
