Morton’s Neuroma

by: Mandy G on Fri, Jun 15 2007

I began suffering from a sporadic pain in the ball of my foot in approx 1999. I lived with the pain for 5 yrs during which time it got gradually worse when it reached the point I could no longer wear most of my footwear and my day was planned around making sure I wasn’t on my feet for long period. Going for a long walk was out of the question so was driving for long periods.

I tried physio, ultrasound, had special inner soles made by a podiatrist all to no avail. My last resort was surgery in May 2006. The offending nerve ending was removed from between toes two and three. I was aware that this was not without risk, I could have ended up with two numb toes or permanent pins and needles but it was a risk I had to take. My surgeon managed to perform the surgery from the top of my foot so I didn’t have to walk on scar tissue afterwards.

The operation was a huge success and one year on I have no pain and no side effects. Thanks to a brilliant surgeon I have got my life back.
