- Problems after Morton’s Nueroma Surgery - by Carol - (Tue, Aug 14 2007)
I had surgery in February - was told surgery and recovery went well; however, shortly after, foot felt worse then before my surgery. I have had several shots of cortisone; however, that only gives me temporary relief. Now they want to go in on the bottom of my foot and do surgery once again - I am very hesitant to do this as am afraid this might make things worse.

Over a period of two to three years, I developed recurring loss of sensation followed by excruciating pain in my left foot. On occasions it literally brought tears to my eyes. Walking for pleasure, something I had previously enjoyed was no longer possible, and a day spent shopping became a trial rather than fun, so, when the same symptoms started to appear in my right foot, I began to question the possibility of Morton’s’ Neuroma.

19 months ago, I was at a concert with my boyfriend. Of course, I was wearing high-heeled pointy toed boots. We walked home after the concert and throughout the next few days, I noticed that the ball of my right foot and a few of my toes seemed numb. Months later, the numbness was still there, so I went to see my regular doctor, who tried cortisone injections which did nothing to relieve the numbness. He referred me to a podiatrist who said I needed some really expensive orthodic inserts for my shoes.

I had a morton’s [neuroma] removed 10 days ago. I’m going back to have the stitches removed today. I chose to have it done under local but unfortunately my foot took a lot of numbing and eventually they ploughed ahead and it was a painful experience. I also didn’t realise how painful it was going to be post op.
