RSD

by: stan smith on Mon, Apr 14 2008

My name is Stan. I am 49 years old and was injured at work 2/9/06. My left hand & arm (shoulder) was mangled in in a magnetic drill press. I was taken to the hospital and stapled up from the tears in the center of my arm above my elbow. I had lacerations and cuts all over the arm. I had to follow up with workmed the next day. After six months of getting no better, I had to retain legal assistance to fight for me to get second opinions. I have had surgery to my elbow area and somewhere around a total of 62 physical therapy sessions. The doctor had released me back to work doing one handed jobs ( i was put to weed eating 8 hrs day, painting the mens toilet, etc. Previously I had been cutting and stretching trucks and trailers and welding. Many doctors have noted that I have had RSD all along the way.

I have extreme senstivity to my left arm, my shoulder huts all the time and I have no use of my hand. Even now my good hand has became affected. My handwriting is that of a 2nd graders and I can not write in length (My wife is typing my story) I have seen numerous types of doctors and now they have decided that there is nothing more they can do for me. I have took all the various meds and await to hear if they are going to approve an epidural cathereter infusion. I am not a canidate for sympathectomy ( thankful for that as I hear bad things for that procedure).

My friends have become distant and some family does not even understand what it is like for me on a day to day basis. I go no where and do nothing. I have found this web site and read all the stories and they are so familiar with my own. Is there any relief? Why is RSD so not known until a person actually has it? Even my attorney stated that RSD is very hard to prove yet I hold every symptom. My life is completely the opposite of what it was. Sometimes it feels as though it ended 2/9/06. I had believe that I would be well again after seeing doctors but they are no longer giving me any hope. It seems as though nothing relieves my pain and I feel as no one in my family understands what I deal with.

I spend my days in pain with the television as I can do nothing else. There is constant burning. The touch of my wife’s hari against me causes me pain, the touch of the sheets in bed causes me pain, the wind causes me pain and so on. I feel that it has spread to my bones. I hurt internally and all over. Is there any cure? I am unsure if I will be able to even get to see a doctor that treats RSD because it is not something that can be seen other than the scares I will carry till death, I just want to talk with other people that understand as I feel there is no one to talk with other than my wife who lives with me and see’s it day and night. How can we get through this? My balance has become worse, does this continue? When does it ever stop? How can I continue to live dealing with this? It is a demon on the body and we continue to have hope and pray.

I want to be whole again. I want to hold my wife and my grandchildren. I want to go fishing and drink a cold beer again. I want to be able sleep. My wife wants me to mow the lawn and weed eat again and put up Christmas lights on our house. Tell me, is there any hope? Is there any real help? I would like to chat to others but remember my wife is typing this one for me and from here out when I can get on to chat I will be typing with one hand and quite slowly. I apprecaite any one who would spend the time to hear me and talk with me about your RSD. Perhaps I can gain confidence and even have new friends; ones that understand. My prayers are with everyone dealing with this horrid disease.
Sincerely,
Stan & debbie
