- Frustrated with fracture - by Dede - (Wed, Jul 25 2007)
Hi all. I shattered my sesemoid [sesamoid] bone about a week ago. It was so badly shattered that the dr. thought it is actually a re injury of an old fracture, which I do not remember ever doing. I was in a walking cast for a week, which I hated. I am now in a short leg cast which I requested.

I am experiencing my second round of this. The first time was not as severe, about a year and a half ago. I have played sports my entire life and now this. I am in a walking aircast boot. I took Motrin 800, helped relieve the pain until it was at its peak swelling.

I’ve had ‘fractured’ (totally broken) sesamoids for over a year now. The walking cast and plaster did nothing, in fact they made it worse. Resting didn’t help. I was a keen sports fanatic before, now I can’t barely walk. I’ve now developed a bunion and hammer toes probably because of my gait.

I fractured my sesamoid last year - pretty much a stress fracture from rock-climbing. Eventually I stopped most physical activity except for swimming and pilates. (Didn’t do any pilates moves that involved standing). I wore a walking cast for about 8 weeks and luckily had a physical therapist friend who gave me iontopheoisis (sp)? treatments regularly. (a way to get steroid/anti-inflamatory via electrical impulses).

I too suffered from this. An MRI showed that it was fractured. I was in a cast for 9 months which never really helped.

i use to do athletics until i was diagnosed with sesamoiditis i’ve been for two MRI scans. tried physio which didn’t help. have been given orthotics which just ease the pain slightly.

I too am suffering from continued sesamoiditis No fracture seems to show up on x-ray, MRI Been wearing a walking cast boot for 5 weeks now, with no real healing.
